It’s Not Too Late for Your HVAC Maintenance for Winter!

hands-opening-heating-cabinetIt looks like we’re going to enjoy a warm—or at least moderately cool—Thanksgiving here in the Central Valley. We can’t expect this to last, of course. By the end of December, the heating systems in our homes will be working regularly, and they’ll keep up their hard work through until April.

The takeaway from this is that you still have time left to have major problems with your heating system fixed before the heater gets down its the hard winter work. And, if you haven’t yet scheduled regular fall maintenance for your heating system, it’s still fall and not too late to have it done. Simply put, you shouldn’t miss your heating maintenance for the year. It’s better late than never, and right now it’s definitely not too late.

Why Heating Maintenance Is Vital, No Matter When It’s Done

This is something we can’t emphasize enough: heating maintenance needs to be scheduled with HVAC professionals each year. There are many reasons for this. In most cases, not having annual maintenance will void the equipment warranty. Here are a few other reasons that heating maintenance, no matter when it’s done, is essential:

  • Peace of mind: As soon as you have the heating inspection and tune-up done for your furnace or other heating system, you can relax about its performance for the rest of the winter. Maintenance can’t prevent all potential problems over the season, but it can prevent most of them. Best of all, it goes a long way toward stopping the biggest of all malfunctions, which is the heating system breaking down entirely and not delivering heat. The peace of mind you’ll enjoy knowing that a heating catastrophe is unlikely to happen is the best intangible benefit of annual maintenance.
  • Energy savings: You don’t want to start regular use of a heating system without maintenance because you’ll probably waste energy. Each year a heating system misses its fall maintenance, it wears down, collects dirt, and starts to work harder. And that means higher energy bills.
  • Extended equipment life: Here is a long-term benefit, but one that will save you a great deal of money. Running a heating system that hasn’t been tuned-up and cleaned will cause it to pick up wear much faster. And that means the equipment will have a shorter lifespan and need to be replaced early.
  • Safety: If you have a natural gas furnace—and the majority of homes do—an inspection is necessary to make sure it operates safely. It’s never too late to keep your heater safe!
