How an HVAC Contractor Can Help You Lower Your Heating Bills

piggy-bankYou can find plenty of tips with an internet search on how to cut down your home heating bills. Many of these are common sense: “Wear warmer clothing and lower the thermostat” and “change the furnace filter every 1–3 months.” Good advice and easy for your household to do.

But the most effective methods of lowering winter heating costs, especially if those costs seem too high, is to work with an HVAC contractor in Fresno, CA. Our technicians have years of experience helping customers in the Central Valley enjoy better, less expensive comfort.

We’ve listed a few of the ways we can curb those heating bills with our services. The best method is to arrange for us to come to your house and look over your HVAC equipment. We’ll find what you need for more affordable heating.

Cleaning and tuning-up the heating system

This is the standard maintenance procedure for a heating system that we recommend all customers have performed yearly. The best time for a cleaning and adjustment is in the fall before winter arrives. But it’s not too late to have it done. Just cleaning the heater of dust and debris will improve its performance and energy efficiency. Without regular maintenance, you can expect a decline in the heater’s efficiency each year, as well as a higher chance of repairs cropping up.

Calibrating the thermostat

The thermostat in a house has a temperature sensor to detect when to turn the heater and blower on and off. When you notice the heater running longer to reach your desired temperature or struggling to maintain the temperature, it may mean the thermostat readings are off. Even a few degrees of miscalibration in the thermostat will mean money wasted as the heater runs longer than necessary. Unfortunately, this kind of miscalibration often occurs, but our technicians can examine the thermostat and recalibrate it to work right. (We can also put in a new thermostat if the current one is beyond repair.)

Preventive repair work

Big heating bills that don’t match the way you’re using the heater often mean worn down or broken components in the system. You don’t have to wait for the heater to suffer a full failure or a drop in heating ability before calling our technicians to fix or replace the offending parts. We’ll not only help your heater cost less to run, we’ll save you money on a much bigger repair later.

Install a new heater

Yes, this is a big step. But when the heater is well over a decade old (or more), it may be the best one. Heaters begin to lose energy efficiency near the end of their service lives, leading to a steep and steady rise in heating costs. The best way to stop this is with a new heating system. We can install a heater that has better energy efficiency than your current heater had the day it rolled out of the factory.
