Should I Have Custom-Made Ductwork for My New Home Construction?

When you decide to build your own home, you’ll face many important decisions. Choosing the correct ductwork design for the ventilation system from an experienced HVAC contractor will be extremely important to your home.

You may not think of ductwork as anything that needs to look “special” because it’s hidden out of sight. But this overlooks the significant benefits of having a ventilation system designed with customized ductwork. We think that when you consider the advantages of a higher rated R-value duct (Flex Duct) you’ll see that it’s the best way to go.

Better HVAC system efficiency

The energy efficiency of a heating and cooling system depends on much more than the model of furnace or AC. The ductwork design has a major impact on efficiency. We often handle ductwork replacement and repairs, and we’ve seen the negative effects for a home of a sloppy ductwork job made from pre-fab parts. Extra bends and turns, ducts the wrong size, and bad joints can all result in ducts that create too much air resistance and lead to air leaks. This will chop down HVAC energy efficiency. With custom ducts, you’ll have a ventilation system built to work for your house, not against it.

Improved comfort

A poorly designed ventilation system can’t deliver the comfort of one that’s specially built. The big problem with pre-fabricated ducts when it comes to comfort is bad air balancing. This leads to hot and cold spots around the house. Customized ducts mean great air balancing and an even distribution of air around the building.

Easier construction

Having customized ducts will make the construction phase of the house go better as well. You won’t have to try to find a compromise between a predetermined duct design based on pre-fabricated parts and the layout of the house. The ducts will be made to fit the house—which is exactly the way you want it.

Longevity

The strain placed on bad ducts because of the increase in air pressure will cause them to wear out rapidly. You can expect your customized ducts to stay around for much longer. All in all, the extra cost of customized ducts will pay for itself many times over.

You won’t find many HVAC contractors who do their own sheet metal fabrication in Madera, CA. We have our own 24,000-square-foot facility for sheet metal fabrication and can meet the needs of any type of residential ducting you may need. We have decades of experience designing ductwork for a wide range of homes and businesses, so you can trust we’ll provide you with whatever sheet metal fabrication your project requires.
