Hot Dog Dinner at Madera Fair 2023

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning along with Randy and Sheryl Berry hosted the Annual Hot Dog dinner on Sept 4th from 5–7pm. We hosted a dinner for all the 4H and FFA Exhibitors and their families the night before the Madera District Fair opened to the public. The 4H and FFA kids arrive a few days before the Fair to work and prepare to show their livestock animals. The hot dog dinner is an annual tradition in Madera that everyone at Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning looks forward to attending. We cooked over five hundred hotdog dinners complete with drinks and all the fixings. It is a great way for us to get out in the community and support our local hardworking kids and the agricultural community.

Purl’s Involvement in the 36th Annual Kids Day March

Kids-Day-Tables

Valley Children’s Hospital provides vital pediatric medical care for children. Since 1988, Valley Children’s has partnered with ABC30, the Fresno Bee, and numerous businesses and volunteers to arrange Kids Day. This is one of the largest fundraising events in the Central Valley and hosts more than twenty communities to help raise funds to support Valley Children’s greatest needs.

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning hosted the Madera site location. We partnered with Alegria Guild of Valley Children’s Hospital as the main hub for our volunteers. The volunteers started to arrive at 6 o’clock in the morning to check in and pick up their postcards to sell for Kids Day. Children and adults lined the sidewalks and intersections of Madera to raise funds and awareness for Valley Children’s Hospital and the kids of our Valley. It was such a fantastic day to partner with our local businesses and youth in Madera.

We’d like to extend a big “thank you” to St. Joachim School and its 7th and 8th grade classes. These amazing kids were the main selling force in our community. They won the Middle School Challenge for the highest sales in the Central Valley. So many of our volunteers have a personal story or tie to Valley Children’s Hospital, and this is their chance to show support and to give back.

We’re looking forward to 2024 and again working with Alegria Guild and Valley Children’s Hospital to help grow the volunteer list and increase sales in Madera.

Excessive Heat Warning! What You Can Do

Friday, June 19th, 2020

The Central Valley is looking at a scorching hot weekend ahead, with temperatures reaching triple-digit highs starting Friday! We are here to help if you need air conditioning repair, of course. We also have some advice for how you can keep cool and safe through these temperature extremes:

  • Pull down the shades and close the shutters of windows around the house. This will help keep out radiant heat from the sun.
  • Keep to the shade as much as possible if you do have to go out. If you must be in the sun, apply generous amounts of sunscreen (at least 15 SPF) and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.
  • Plan your day specifically around the peak heat times—11 a.m. to 5 p.m.—so you won’t be outdoors during the hottest periods.
  • Avoid tasks such as cooking, running the washing machine, or doing laundry during the day. These generate large amounts of extra heat.
  • Although cooling off with a shower can feel nice, too much extra moisture in the air will make the heat feel worse indoors.
  • Keeps all pets inside or in the shade.
  • Drink plenty of cool drinks to stay hydrated, and eat smaller cold meals such as salads and fruit. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can dehydrate you.
  • Supplement your air conditioning system with fans to help create a cooling breeze.
  • Do not push your air conditioning system too hard—maintain a 78°F setting on the thermostat during the day when people are home.

Coats for Kids 2019!

Friday, November 22nd, 2019

We are proud to kick off our annual Coats for Kids drive for 2019!

Winter months are on the horizon, and the cold weather will arrive before we know it. Please don’t throw away any coats that are too small for your kids—you can donate them to help others. Bring in any new or gently used coats to Purl’s. All these donations stay in the community and help children in our area.

About Coats for Kids

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning is proud to join Kiss Country (KSKS 93.7 Fresno) and the Salvation Army as a collection sponsor for the 2019 Coats for Kids drive. Each year the community and local businesses work with the Salvation Army to collect gently used or new winter coats to keep kids warm in the cold months.

For more than 30 years, this campaign has brought together organizations, schools, businesses, and members of the community with the single goal to donate to children in need. Kiss Country has been part of Coats for Kids in the Central Valley for more than 20 years. Their efforts to bring this issue and coat drive to the forefront has made a real difference in the lives of many young children.

We have partnered with St. Joachim’s School and Howard Elementary School to help bring in even more coats! We love that the kids of our community are helping give back at such a young age.

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning encourages our customers and members of the community to get involved and help keep the kids in our Valley warm. We’re open to the public as a drop-off location for coats, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To make things easier, customers can also give coats directly to our service team during their winter USA service maintenance. Our goal is to help collect hundreds of coats in the hope that no child will have to be cold.

Purl’s Helped at the Alegria Guild Annual “Day in the Country” Event

Friday, October 25th, 2019

This year, Purl’s was proud to volunteer at the Alegria Guild’s annual “Day in the Country” event. The Alegria Guild represents Madera County, and its members are made up of a diverse group of women who share in common a love for children. The annual “Day in the Country” is a women’s luncheon that’s great for gathering with friends and family to support Valley Children’s Healthcare.

This year’s event was held on October 5 and included the guild’s famous baked goods sale, box office raffle, door prizes, silent auction, and shopping at the Artisan Faire. Our Purl’s volunteers donated a handcrafted entertainment station for the event. We are always excited to support the Alegria Guild and Valley Children’s Hospital.
