Why Won’t My Gas Furnace Turn On?

Monday, October 17th, 2022
inside-a-gas-furnace

This isn’t a situation you want to run into when the outdoor temperatures drop. A gas furnace not heating can happen for multiple reasons, some simple and easy to correct with troubleshooting, others that require calling professionals like ours to handle repairs.

We’re going to look at some of the common causes for a furnace that won’t turn on and provide heat to a home. Although we’ll point out situations where you can remedy the issue on your own, we want to stress that any actual repair must have a licensed expert. Tinkering with a gas furnace on your own can be extremely hazardous. When you have any doubts about your gas furnace, please reach out to us rather than attempt to solve it yourself.

What Could Go Wrong with Your AC’s Condenser

Monday, May 7th, 2018

air-conditioning-tool-bagThe condenser, or condenser unit, is one of the vital parts of a home’s air conditioning system. When HVAC technicians refer to the condenser, they’re talking about the entire outdoor unit of a split system air conditioner, the type most people use for home comfort. The condenser houses the compressor, which places the refrigerant under pressure so it will circulate through the system, condenser coils where heat is released to the outdoors to cool down the refrigerant, and a blower fan to draw air across the condenser coils and then exhaust the heat out of the unit.

The condenser is therefore responsible for two crucial functions in the AC: to move refrigerant and to exhaust heat.

Wednesday Closure

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017

We are writing with my deepest regrets to announce the recent passing of Michael Purl last Wednesday evening. As many of you have heard, Michael has had a hard fought battle with ALS. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his entire family. Michael was respected and loved by all.  He was a man of high moral character, which was built on honesty, respect and solid core values. He worked very hard and always had time to develop personal relationships and connections with each of us. That is the heart of what has made Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning feel like a family and not just a business. His teachings and influence will have a lasting effect on all of us and he will be missed by everyone!

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning will be closed on Wednesday 8-23-17 in observance of funeral service for Michael Purl. With heavy hearts our Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Family will be attending services and will return to work on Thursday 8-24. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

The Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Family

Hotdog dinner at the Madera Fair – 2016

Friday, October 7th, 2016

Another great evening at the Hotdog dinner at the Madera Fair

Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning, along with Randy and Sheryl Berry and friends, hosted the Annual Hot Dog dinner on Sept 6th, 2016. The 4H and FFA kids were busy preparing to show their livestock animals the day before the Madera Fair opened. Providing dinner is a fun way to support our local hardworking kids and their families. Randy and Sheryl and friends started this tradition over 25 years ago. Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning partnered with Randy and Sheryl over 10 years ago on this great event.

Our crew grilled more than 500 hotdogs that evening. Dinners were complete with drinks, chips and all the hotdog fixings’. This is an annual tradition in Madera that everyone at Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning looks forward to attending and gives us a chance to visit with the kids and their families.

Ways to Help Keep Cool This Summer

Monday, May 30th, 2016

The central air conditioning system is our main weapon against the summer heat. But to help your AC system obtain the longest life possible, as well as to keep down your bills over the season, it’s a good idea to find others ways to keep cool. You can give your air conditioning system longer periods of downtime when you use some of these “stay cool” tactics:

Keep the window blinds closed

You won’t need to have the light sealed off from the inside of your house all the time, but for windows that face toward the sunlight during the day, keeping the blinds closed can prevent up to 30% of unwanted heat from coming in.

Invest in a whole-house fan

This is fan installed in the attic of your home that draws hot air up through the top of the house, which then allows outdoor air to rush inside. A whole-house fan is especially helpful during the evenings, when the air outside the house is cooler than that inside.

Use less light—or change to LEDs

Rely on natural light as much as possible, since incandescent bulbs give off extra heat. (This is also a good way to save on electricity.) For a great longer-term solution, switch over to LED bulbs, which don’t give off heat and use significantly less power than standard bulbs.

The fan-and-ice cubes trick

This is an old-fashioned form of low-cost air conditioning, but it still works! Place a bowl of ice cubes in front of a fan. The air will lose heat to the ice cubes and cool down. This is a good way to chill-out a small part of your house at minimal little cost (just the electricity to run the fan).

The wet sheet across the window

Here’s an air conditioning trick that’s been around for thousands of years: hang a wet sheet in front of an open window. The breeze that comes in will be much cooler, and will lower the room’s temperature quickly.

Drink plenty of liquids

A large part of staying cool is keeping your body cool instead of the air around it. Make sure that you’re well-hydrated on the hottest days of the year with plenty of ice-cold drinks.

Whenever you need air conditioning services, call on Purl’s Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Fresno and Madera, CA.

Friday, January 29th, 2016

THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO DONATED!

Purl’s Sheet Metal wrapped up our 2015 Coats for Kids drive with a total collection of 315 coats. Our customers, employees and the kids at Lincoln Elementary School in Madera collected coats. coats_for_kids_logoThis has been a very cold winter and every coat collected was desperately needed.

We celebrated at Lincoln School with the class who collected the most amounts of coats. The pizza party with Mrs. Bowser’s 5th grade class gave us the opportunity to thank for the kids for their part in bringing in a total of 315 coats.  We appreciate the hard work of the students! We visited with the class about the importance of helping others in our community and how we can all make a difference!

Coats_for_Kids_2015_Pizza_PartyAll of the coats collected stayed in Madera County and were distributed by our local Salvation Army Office. What a great way to celebrate successful Coats for Kids drive in Madera and we look forward to another great year in 2016!

Thank you!
